No Contact Novice Longsword
No experience needed! This drop-in style weekly class offers physically distanced, guided solo longsword practice for novices. Please register for each individual class you will attend.
Each one-hour class includes a warm-up, and instructor guided solo drills for the longsword, including instructor feedback. Some classes will include working with pells and targets. Participants will also get access to the Ottawa Swordplay Discord Server, including access to our Saturday live video classes.
These sessions will be held indoors at the Ottawa Swordplay Sword Hall. Students can access the bathroom and get water, but change rooms are not available.
Marla and Sean will instruct these sessions.
Students will require a non-medical (cloth) mask, indoor shoes, a water bottle and a practice longsword. Students will be loaned a trainer longsword during class. You should bring a water bottle. You must wear a non-medical (cloth) mask for the class, and outdoor shoes and boots cannot be worn on the training floor. You do not need a fencing mask.
Sliding Price Scale
These sessions are offered with a sliding price scale. Choose between the Generous, Standard, or Subsidized rates according to your means.
COVID-19 Precautions (Updated November 4)
Ottawa Swordplay is following all public health recommendations to offer a safe class experience. Classes will be held indoors with physical distancing between all students and instructors. Class size is limited to 6 students and 2 instructors so that all participants can be 3 metres apart. High contact surfaces are regularly sanitized. Students are asked not too arrive too early and not to linger long after class to reduce contacts.
Freeplay is not permitted due to the risk of close contact. Paired drills are only permitted between students from same household. If you are signing up with others from your household, please sign up each additional person as a guest to your registration.
Students may not attend class if they have traveled outside the country in the last two weeks, if they have any symptoms of Covid-19 such as fever or cough, or if they have been in close contact with anyone who has tested positive or suspects they may have Covid-19. If you need to cancel your registration for these reasons, you will receive a refund for the class.
Should an instructor become ill, classes they lead will be cancelled for two weeks or until they are confirmed to have tested negative for Covid-19.
