December at Ottawa Swordplay

Our course term is over, but we have many events and training opportunities for all ages and skill levels this December.

Tuesday December 3, 7-8:30 pm: Introduction to Longsword Workshop.

This workshop covers the basic introductory material for our longsword course. Current students may attend for free if they bring a novice friend. New students who sign up for a January course get their workshop fee deducted from the course.

Wednesday December 4, 7-8:30 pm: Ringen Exploration Workshop

This workshop is for students who have relevant experience. It will run as a study group to develop our interpretation of the wrestling associated with our system.

Thursday December 5, 7-8:30 pm: Introduction to Longsword Workshop

This workshop covers the basic introductory material for our longsword course. Current students may attend for free if they bring a novice friend. New students who sign up for a January course get their workshop fee deducted from the course.

Friday December 6, 7-8:30 pm: Battle Games

Event Cancelled.

Saturday December 7, Noon-4 pm: Dagger and Ringen Intensive Workshop

A crash course in dagger and wrestling covering our entire novice curriculum to prepare students for the January Dagger and Ringen course.

Tuesday December 10, 7-9 pm: Coaching Systems Development

Free! Our coaches will be training and experimenting with a system for one-on-one training and will need students (guinea pigs?) to train. You will benefit from this training, but the focus is on training our instructors, so there may be down time.

Thursday December 12, 7-8:30 pm: Coach Development Workshop

This workshop is for students who want to become better training partners or work towards becoming an instructor. We will teach our coaching philosophy and expectations and give practice working with students.

Saturday December 14, 12-4 pm Winter Festival of Fights!

This is our capstone event of the year, a fun "tournament" for our students. Bring a gift worth $15-20, Fight over the gifts with swords, and everyone goes home with a gift . Open to all ages! The weapons and rules for each fight are determined (within reason) by the participants. Spear, Sword and Dagger in armour? check! Sword and Buckler? check! Plastic training foils that beep? Check!
